Please Consider Volunteering with Marlboro Youth Soccer

Hello MYS Families… I hope this message finds you well. While Ghiloni Park may still be covered in snow, please know that our Board of Directors is working very hard to prepare for the upcoming Spring soccer season. In light of the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on all of us, development of this Spring’s program is guided by 3 important goals:

  1. Get kids out and playing soccer!
  2. Keep all program participants safe.
  3. Strengthen our MYS community.

We’re excited to offer programs at all age groups this season, and we’ll have much more to say about safety as our State’s guidance continues to evolve... Today I’d like to take a few minutes to talk with you about being part of our community. As many of you may know, our program is run exclusively by volunteers. All of our coaches, Directors, and other volunteers give up a small bit of their time each week during the Spring and Fall seasons to provide a safe and fun environment for our kids to learn the game of soccer. For me, that started 6 years ago when my son first joined our Kindergarten program, and since that time I’ve found coaching to be an extremely rewarding way to spend time with my kids and to meet many other families and friends in our City.

This Spring’s program might look a bit different from years past, but one thing that’s clear is that our need for adult volunteers will be greater than ever before. In addition to our regular needs for coaches and assistant coaches, each team is required to have a COVID-19 coordinator to oversee compliance with State, local, and our own organization’s health and safety protocols. As a Board, we’re committed to giving you all of the resources and support you’ll need to volunteer in any capacity, and we’re working with our new partners (the Boston Bolts soccer club) to update practice plans, organize clinics, and provide direct instruction to new coaches. So if you’ve ever considered volunteering with Marlboro Youth Soccer and joining our organization, now is a great time to do so… a time when our kids and our community need some healthy outdoor activities the most.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly at with any questions about volunteer opportunities and/or requirements. One of our most immediate needs is help in translating documents, so that we can better support our Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking members.

I look forward to warmer Spring temperatures and a chance to meet each and every one of you soon!

Brian DuPont – VP, Risk Manager, COVID-19 Compliance Officer

Spring 2021 - Continuing Updates...

Hello MYS Families…

Spring is around the corner and our plans for the MYS Spring 2021 season are starting to come together. Thanks for your patience, as we try to adapt to evolving guidance from the State and MA Youth Soccer.

In general, most of our program will be IN TOWN only, with no BAYS travel games.  The exception to that is the Grade 7/8 Girls and HS Girls age groups.  For all IN TOWN Programs, we will be building on what we offered in the Fall with the Boston Bolts soccer club by expanding our partnership with them.  Participants at all age groups will be split into groups of no more than 25 per field, in order to meet State requirements. Below is the high level break down of specific activities at each age group.

  • Kindergarten… Will remain on Saturday mornings only. Activities will alternate between dedicated clinics led by Bolts staff and jamboree style mini scrimmages within each cohort.
  • Grade 1 and 2… Activities will include a weekday clinic led by Bolts staff, and a weekend scrimmage, and could include some practices.
  • Grade 3 and 4… Will be conducted as a co-ed program for this season only. Activities will include a weekday clinic led by Bolts staff, and a weekend scrimmage, could include some practices.
  • Grade 5 and 6… Girls and Boys will be split into separate groups.  Activities will include a weekday clinic led by Bolts staff, a weekend scrimmage, and could include some practices.
  • Grade 7+ Boys… Activities will include a weekday clinic led by Bolts staff, a weekend scrimmage, and some practices.
  • Grade 7 and 8 Girls… Two teams with expanded rosters will play a regular BAYS season.  These teams will also have weekday clinic opportunities led by Bolts staff.
  • Girls HS… One team with expanded roster will play a regular BAYS season.  Activities will include a weekday practice and a weekend game.

A few major points to consider:

  1. These programs are contingent on finding enough volunteers to fill coach, assistant coach, and COVID-19 coordinator (1 per group/team required) positions. If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, please reach out to our Risk Manager, Brian DuPont, at
  2. There is still space to sign up for our programs and we’ve waived late fees for the Spring season.
  3. We plan to conduct tryouts in June to help us prepare for a full BAYS re-entry in Fall 2021!

Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly at   with any questions about volunteer opportunities and/or requirements.

Latest Covid information

November 20, 2020

First and foremost, Marlboro Youth Soccer must adhere to City, State, and Federal guidelines, as well as follow any restrictions our partners or facilities require.  In General, if those agencies allow soccer to be played, we then look to Mass Youth Soccer and BAYS for further guidance on how the game should be played.

Mass Youth Soccer:

Mass Youth Soccer maintains a website with multiple pieces of information regarding Covid:
https://www.mayouthsoccer.org/return-to-soccer-activities/

The latest specific set of guidelines from Mass Youth Soccer was last updated mid November:
https://www.mayouthsoccer.org/assets/61/6/soccer_activities_protocols_111920.pdf

In short, soccer is allowed to return to normal laws of the game on the field, as long as all the other social distancing, mask requirements, and attendance regulations are being adhered to.  The above document is very specific as to all the rules, depending on what role you play.  Coaches, Organizations (such as MYS), and even Parents have guidelines that will need to be followed.  We expect this to be tweaked again before Spring, but that the core of any regulations in the Spring will be based off this document.

BAYS:

BAYS is the organization that runs our travel league:

  • Coaches: Each team will be required to have 2-3 Coaches.  Coach Training and Certification Reimbursement provided.  Has direct tie to their age division director and the Development Director, Stefan Hudzikiewicz.
  • Refs: We have need for referees at all age groups.  Training and Certification provided.  Has direct tie to the Referee Assignor, Andy Lucas.
  • Board: We have need for multiple board positions.  Has direct tie to the President, Henry Garcia.
